ChainSight

Setting up your authenticator app

Every ChainSight agent and admin account signs in with two codes: one we email you, and one from an authenticator app on your phone. You set the app up once, the first time you sign in, and it takes a couple of minutes. Buyers and sellers do not need one.

1 Install a free authenticator app on your phone

Any of these works. If you already use one, or a password manager that shows verification codes, you can use that instead.

2 Scan the code ChainSight shows you

After your invitation link and your emailed code, ChainSight asks you to set up two-factor authentication. Press Set up authenticator app and a square QR code appears.

Open your authenticator app, tap the + button and choose to scan a QR code, then point your phone at the code on your screen. In Microsoft Authenticator, tap + and choose Other account first.

Scan it with the authenticator app, not your phone's camera. The camera app does not know what to do with it.

Setting up on the same phone you are reading it on? You cannot scan your own screen. Under the QR code, press Copy beside the key, then in your authenticator app choose to enter a key instead of scanning, and paste it. Name the entry ChainSight.

3 Type in the six-digit code

Your app now shows ChainSight with a six-digit code, which changes every 30 seconds. Type the code it shows into Code from your app and press Verify and finish.

4 Save your backup codes

You are then shown ten backup codes. If you lose your phone, one of them lets you set up the app again on a new one. Press Copy or Download and keep them somewhere other than your phone. They are shown only once.

From then on, each time you sign in, you enter the code we email you and then the code your app shows.

If it does not work

It says the code is incorrect
Wait for the app to show a new code and type that one. If it still fails, check your phone sets its time automatically: the codes depend on the clock.
You scanned a code before and did not finish
Each time you start setting up, ChainSight shows a new code, so an entry you scanned earlier will not work. Delete the old ChainSight entry from your app, sign in again and scan the new code.
You have lost your phone
Sign in as usual and enter one of your backup codes where the app's code would go. ChainSight then asks you to set up your authenticator app again, on your new phone. If you have no backup codes left, ask an admin at your agency to reset your authenticator, and you set it up again the next time you sign in. If you are your agency's only admin, email us.
